The GPSSA reveals plans to raise awareness during the UAE’s 2023 Year of Sustainability

Abu Dhabi, 23rd March 2023: The UAE is a cornerstone and major partner in preserving the environment, achieving sustainability and preserving natural resources worldwide, a requirement that is necessary for the economic progression and well-being of society, highlighted the General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA).

As part of the UAE’s 2023 Year of Sustainability, the GPSSA is partnering with various entities and authorities affiliated to education, culture and society to elevate and instill a culture of sustainability amongst its employees and society at large.

As part of the slogan ‘Today for Tomorrow’ that marks the Year of Sustainability, immense efforts are being taken to create a safer and more secure present and future for the nation, especially given the global shortage of some resources which supported the government’s decision to promote rational consumption for resources in order to preserve the environment.

In 2023, the GPSSA plans to endorse various sustainability projects that involve re-cycling and re-use of products and materials, reduction in emissions generated from non-environmentally friendly materials or methods, reliance on low-priced recycled products to lessen production and operation costs and adopt digital transformation and proactive services to diminish reliance on paper.

In parallel, further awareness will be raised amongst employees and members of the public to reduce waste, preserve natural resources, food, water, electricity, energy and other consumables. All initiatives that will lead to preserving the overall ecosystem, i.e. terrestrial and marine ecosystems and their biological diversity, while reducing harmful emissions that cause climate change.

Amongst the most prominent initiatives included in GPSSA’s plan to mark sustainability year is the launch of a social media campaign that aims to raise awareness on the concepts and values of sustainability, alongside organizing various events such as ‘Exploration Journey’ which includes a visit to a recycling factory,

‘Our Humanity Supports Our Environment’ which will bring about innovative recycling ideas and ‘Our Environment in Our Eyes’ where a trip to a natural reserve will be organized to learn more about the efforts exerted by the nation to protect the environment.

The sustainability plan also includes the ‘Produce with Environment Responsibility’ through which the GPSSA plans to host an entity specialized in crop production and cultivation via the use of organic fertilizers to preserve soil, to speak about its techniques and methods.

The GPSSA alongside a number of pensioners will also host the ‘Sustainability Experts’ event, where pensioners who contributed to promoting sustainability will speak about their experience and projects eco-friendly projects related to agriculture and animals.

Additionally, electric charging tools for cars parked under the GPSSA buildings will installed and various in-house competitions on sustainability amongst employees will be arranged.

The UAE’s Pension Authority plans to boost the overall quality of life and enhance well-being amongst individuals, promote social responsibility in protecting natural resources, work with the community to reduce harmful emissions, emphasize the importance of saving and rationalizing a family’s expenditures by reducing water and electricity consumption, while raising the level of security and public safety.

It is worth noting that the UAE is a key sponsor in various global initiatives aimed at protecting the environment and finding appropriate solutions to the ongoing challenges of global climate change. Accordingly, the UAE is hosting the ‘COP 28’ conference, which reflects the nations global recognition and leading role in endless eco-friendly efforts.
